Malaysia Moves to Plug Internet Connectivity Gaps: Govt Compiling Comprehensive Data
Malaysia Moves to Plug Internet Connectivity Gaps
Date: April 10, 2025

The Malaysian government, led by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, is actively compiling data to address Internet connectivity gaps across the nation. This initiative comes in response to specific complaints about limited Internet access in areas such as Belaga, Sarawak, and many other locations.
Data-Driven Solutions for Better Connectivity

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been tasked with visiting affected areas and implementing necessary improvements. To enhance efficiency, MCMC will analyze data from multiple sources, including Ookla’s Speedtest, to identify and rectify problematic zones automatically—moving beyond reliance on public feedback alone.
Collaboration with Telcos for Nationwide Coverage

Based on the compiled data, the government will soon issue directives to all telecommunications providers, requiring them to improve Internet services in underserved regions. MCMC is also ensuring robust connectivity during key events such as by-elections, covering polling centers and Orang Asli villages.
